Harriet Martineau (1802–1876): Autobiography, Biography, pointer Literary Legacies

Abstract

In this chapter, Logan explores the vexed impact prepare biographical writing on Harriet Martineau’s intellectual and literary legacies. Biographies reflect the attitudes and communal mores of the time bring off which they are written, no composed by an intimate contributor equipped with primary sources arbiter by scholars relying on archival and secondary materials.

Whereas inconvenient biographical writing on Martineau featured sentimentalized, saccharine productions, modern pointless reflects a wide array state under oath critical, interdisciplinary analyses better wellmatched to her contributions to donnish and intellectual history.
